Tech executive, laid off from a senior director job, asked Mariposa for career coaching to go beyond his own rigorous job search process, including a great “CRM” for tracking leads. Leader was getting interviews; just not landing a job he wanted. He needed some encouragement with finding new sources for leads and practice with sticking the interviews.

Targeted new sources of connectors and companies with a 4-Point Networking Plan
Accomplishments:
- Delineated Top20 “first” connectors: Locked in immediate zoom meetings and kept up with these connects via LinkedIn (e.g., followed and responded to posts). One of the Top20 ended up being the key connector to secure eventual job offer 6 months after the exec’s original reach out. This connector didn’t have a job opening at the beginning of the job search, but did at the end. Perseverance paid off!
- Developed a “reach out” plan for new connectors online and IRL; ensured having 1-2 in-person networking meetings per week to expand network.
- Targeted Top20 companies in current industry (hardware) and Top10 companies in alternative industries. Leader ended up in a medtech company, an industry he didn’t expect.
- Expanded job search: Continued good work on applying for a variety of jobs within hardware and software; with coach’s encouragement, expanded beyond typical tech and ended up locking in the medtech executive product development position.
